Coronavirus Blues

Got some good feedback on my Facebook post, so might as well include this here.

CORONAVIRUS BLUES  © 2020 Doug Goodkin

Woke up this morning with coronavirus on my mind (2x)
Sat down for breakfast and began to write these lines.

It started in China and soon spread to other lands (2x)
We’ve got to contain it, so remember to wash your hands

Stay away from big parties, don’t go on a Princess Cruise (2x)
We don’t want to keep singing the Coronavirus blues

Don’t listen to the President, stay informed with reliable news (2x)
Listen to the doctors while we’re singin’ the virus blues.

The virus keeps spreadin’, each moment there’s another case (2x)
Use your hand sanitizer and keep your hands from touchin’ your face.

Schools are closin’ and the lessons are going online (2x)
The store shelves are empty, no more T.P., beer or wine.

(BLUES BREAK HERE)
You can still read a book, go out on a hike
Play with your family, go ride your bike
Learn ukulele, sing a new song
We hope that this won’t last very long
Got the Coronavirus Blues (2x)
From the top of our head to the bottom of our shoes.

We gotta learn a lesson from this public health scare
Everyone deserves some decent health care.
We’re all interconnected, each one with the other
Now’s the time to understand we’re all sisters and brothers
Got the Coronavirus Blues (2x)
From the top of our head to the bottom of our shoes.

We’ve got the same problems, the big and the small
You can’t keep out a virus by building a wall.
We can’t control a germ or make laws about the weather
It’s time to realize that we’re all in this together.
Got the Coronavirus Blues (2x)
From the top of our head to the bottom of our shoes.

We’re all of us worried, ain’t none of this fun
If we get through it, we can’t keep doing what we’ve done
So let’s get to work, start to think a new way
Do what we’ve gotta do to make it go away
The choice is up to us, yes, it’s up to us to choose
Spread love instead of germs, And then no more Virus blues.
