The Things You Don't Know

At least 4 days a week since 1982, I have a driven a certain route to school. I know that the one street I mostly drive on changes names some 5 times—from 7^thAvenue to Laguna Honda to Woodside to Oshaunnessy to Bosworth. But today, taking the bus to school, I discovered that before this street makes a T-junction with Alemany, it has yet one more name—Lyell. 

You would think that driving this route some 5,000 times over 36 years, I would know that. But I didn’t. Our brains are small and knowledge is vast and the next time I feel the slightest twinge of arrogance that I know a lot, I’ll remember Lyell Street.
