Abundant Blessings

Another world has opened and closed and ended in a circle of tears and hugs. This is what has become the norm for me and I never take it for granted. To live a life embraced by the music and dance released in these five days with 60 strangers now deeply connected is simply a wonder to behold.

I ended with an Estonian lullaby in 3/4 time that I haven’t done in a while, but it was exquisite. We moved in a spiral while singing and then wrapped up tight, start breathing together while swaying, like a giant pulsing jellyfish. It’s quite a primal experience. We ended with our heads on each other’s backs, feeling the song’s vibration directly in the ear bone. The music, the movement, the vibration— this is a connection far beyond the daily experience of most living humans. The tears were the nectar of the soul flowing out.

Another 40 minutes saying goodbyes and snapping final photos and receiving yet more gifts and then back to my room before tonight’s dinner out with the President of the Chinese Orff Association. I took a look at the messages on the little paper fans that were hung up yesterday for my birthday celebration and that opened my heart yet wider. About ten are written in Chinese characters that I will need translated, but many short messages in English. Here’s a sample:

“Things are going to get much better.”

“The whole secret of the teacher’s force lies in the conviction that people are convertible. To sir, with love.”

“Love. Understand. Believe.”

“You are not only a guide, but a motivation, a light and a source of joyful energy.”

“You have made me feel how wonderful art is, how magical music is and how beautiful the world is.”

“I wish the secret song will last forever.”

“You made the happiest classroom!”

 “Abundant Blessings.”

Abundant blessings, indeed. Onward!  (8/30)
