Puncutation Marks

No Pokemon card, but many signs from the kids in the five classes I taught that they thoroughly enjoyed everything we did. Children’s games are the ticket to instant connection in the music class and we so often overlook them. From Head and Shoulders, Miss Mary Back, Tic Tac Toe  to Lemonade, One Potato, Boom Chick a Boom, we played our way through the morning. Fun all around and I even learned a new version of Lemonade a group of girls showed me. I thought it seemed a great way to start the year.

Apparently, they did also, as some gave me those little gestures of appreciation as I hi-fived them out the door. Some opted for a hug, one boy gave me a shoulder touch, a few gave a thumbs-up, many just a nod and a smile. Putting punctuation marks on sentences I already knew were the right ones from the energy in the room

Especially fun to do an assembly with 300 kids seated on the floor, my old home base of Singing Time. The school head had already given a talk about Dom Pedro II and his commitment to intelligence, education and helping people (I want to learn more about this Brazilian emperor!) and I could put the punctuation mark on his talk about bringing their best selves to the year ahead by singing it in vibrant soulful song (Gonna Build Me a Mountain). The whole day another grammatically perfect punctuation mark to close these three weeks of delight teaching in Brazil.

Off to the airport and a delayed flight giving me five hours in the airport, but no matter. Catch up on e-mails and such, finally arrive at my airport hotel close to midnight and now it’s 6 in the morning as I prepare for the long flights home. More to write at the airport this morning and a good day to you all!
